Umicore used Chain Reaction to make team dynamics visible
At Umicore, Chain Reaction was used in a smaller team context, with the guidance of a business coach. Collaboration was therefore not discussed in theory, but made visible in action.

Client: Umicore
Activity: Chain Reaction
Target group: small team
Theme: team coaching, collaboration, communication, team dynamics
Facilitation: business coach
Sometimes a team building is mainly about fun. Sometimes it also makes things visible.
At Umicore, the focus was on the team level: how does this team work together? Does everyone get enough space? Who takes initiative? Where does communication break down? And how can the team strengthen collaboration in practice?
To explore these questions, Chain Reaction was used, combined with guidance from a business coach.
During the activity, the team built a chain reaction together. While discussing, testing, and adjusting, a very concrete picture of the team dynamics emerged. Not in abstract terms, but in behaviours: who took the lead, who kept oversight, who helped others move forward, and where misunderstandings arose.
That is the strength of Chain Reaction in a coaching context. The activity feels playful, but makes collaboration tangible. The coach does not need to set up artificial exercises; the game naturally brings up situations that are recognisable from everyday work.
After the activity, time was set aside to discuss what had become visible. No heavy theory, just a reflection on real moments from the game.
What remained
The team left with concrete anchors to talk about collaboration. The activity created shared examples, making the conversation less abstract and far more useful.
